It is with regret to inform you that the Board of Directors has decided to postpone the 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championships scheduled 1-4 March 2021 in Kuwait city to be held in October 2021 due to the ongoing uncertainty by Covid 19 pandemic and the health precautions from the Ministry of Health to prevent any athletics event under 18 years.
We ask you kindly to accept our apology to postpone the aforementioned event to October 2021.

1. General Information
- Singapore Athletics (SA) intends to select and send youth athletes for the 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championships (AYAC) 2021. This is subjected to Singapore’s Covid-19 measurements.
2. SA’s selection criteria
- An average of 6th placing of the past 2 editions; for events that do not have 6 participants for past 2 editions, the 6th placing of one edition will be used (See Table 1 below).
3. Qualifying Period
- The qualifying period will be from 01 October 2020 – 01 September 2021.
(Sanctioned meets & results established under legal wind speed condition)
4. Individual events
- A maximum of two athletes for each individual event.
5. Team events
- One team for each relay event. Six athletes (including 2 substitutes) may be entered for each relay.
6. Eligibility for nomination
-
• Athlete must be a Singapore Citizen at the time of nomination.
• Meeting the qualifying mark does not guarantee selection for Asian Youth Athletics Championships 2021. Final decision on selection will be made by SAA, as the body that sets the qualification criteria and makes the final selection of athletes for the Championships.
• Athlete must meet age requirement of the Championships (Born in the year 2004 to 2005 as of 31st December).
7. Final list of selected athletes
- It will be decided on 01 September 2021.
8. Relay Selection (4x100m and 4x400m)
- For the selection of the final 6 runners, SA may organise races for the athletes in the relay training squad to run together under the same race conditions. The Relay Coach will recommend to SA the final 6 athletes for SA’s nomination and the decision to select for the final 4 to race will be decided by the relay coach.
Athletes selected in final team for AYAC 2021, will be required to (Unless with valid & approved reasons for absence):
-
i. Attend all Team Trainings, Briefings and Camps
ii. Compete at any identified competitions for fitness and performance monitoring
SA reserves the right to drop any athlete if the athlete is deemed unfit/injured to perform at a competitive level.
9. Relay Coach Selection
- The coach with the most athletes in the relay team shall be relay coach. In case of equal number of athletes, the coach with the faster athlete shall be relay coach.
10. Appeals:
- Any form of appeals must be submitted within seven (7) calendar days of the date of announcement of the selection, to the Honorary Secretary. The appeal process shall follow Rule 15 of SA’s constitution and the results will be recommended to SA’s MC for approval.

- Have met World Athletics Entry Standard stated below (See below Table 1).
3. Qualifying Period
- The qualifying period will be from 1 October 2019 to 5 April 2020 and 1 December 2020 to 8 August 2021.

- Three athletes can initially be entered per event, provided each has achieved the Entry Standard, but only two will be allowed to compete.
5. Team events
- One team for each relay event. Six athletes (including 2 substitutes) may be entered for each relay.

• In the event that no athletes qualify, SA will follow the rules set by World Athletics for UNIVERSALITY PLACES (UNQUALIFIED ATHLETES).
• SA will nominate one unqualified male athlete OR one unqualified female athlete in one event of the Championships (Except the Field Events, Combined Events, 5000m and 3000m Steeplechase)
• If SGP best-nominated athlete excels in a Field Event, SA will need to submit the nominee to World Athletics for their consideration first for approval.
• Athletes’ performances under the qualification period will be ranked using percentile against qualifying marks.
For example:
100m Women 11.85s Qualification time
(Season best – Qualification time) / Qualification time x 100%
(12.00 – 11.85) / 11.85 * 100%
= 1.27% off qualification time
High Jump Men 2.16m Qualification height
(Qualification distance/height - Distance/height measured) / Qualification distance/height x 100%
(2.16 - 2.00) / 2.16 * 100%
= 7.41% off Qualification distance/height.
11. Appeals:

Please note: If there is a lighting alert, the event that is affected will be cancelled. For example, if there is a lighting alert at 4PM, then the event at 4PM will be cancelled. It will not be pushed later. SA to proceed with next event such as if the lighting alert stops at 5.30PM, SA will proceed with 5.40PM event that's on the schedule. The events from 4pm to 5.30pm events will be cancelled and not rescheduled due to time constraints, as our stadium booking is until 8PM only.

17-year-old Roy Ng continued his record breaking ways earlier at SA Performance Trial 2.
Held at Home of Athletics, representing Flash Athletic Club, Roy broke the U18 boys javelin record (700 grams).
His attempt of 61.79m, erased the old mark of 59.76m by Wang Tingjia (ASEAN School Games on 18-Sep-2017).
