About SA

Boasting a membership of 22 affiliate institutions, the Singapore Athletics (SA) continues to build on its proud history and tradition as Singapore’s governing body in the track and field for the new millennium. Founded in 1934, SA’s historic footprints began more than 60 years ago when we opened our doors to Singapore’s early athletes at the Farrer Park Stadium. Since then, the SA has toiled and grown, and is now poised to chart new territories for the future. Under the helm of a new dynamic team of volunteers and full-time secretariat, the association will take bold strides to nurture talents and work towards a holistic athlete development and making competitive athletics a viable career.

About Asia Masters Athletics Championships

Asia Masters Athletics Championships started in 1977 when then Secretary of the Asian Veteran Association, Hari Chandra (from Singapore) attended the second World Masters/Veterans Athletes Championship (WAVA) held in Gothenburg, Sweden. At the championship, he met a Japanese participant, Hideo Okada. Together with Milkha Singh (former Indian track and field sprinter), the three of them met at Christchurch, New Zealand in 1981 and decided to organise an Asian version of the WAVA Championships.

The 1st Asia Masters Athletics Championships was held on 27 July 1981 in Singapore with 408 athletes from 8 countries. AMAC consist of athlete’s ages 35 years old and above and is the highest level for the Asia Master’s athletics. Additionally, it has grown rapidly in participation to 2000 athletes from 25 participating countries as seen in last year in the 18th Asia Masters held in Kitakami-City, Japan.
