Selection Criteria

Please submit your interest by 10th August 2016.

Calling all athletes who are interested to compete in overseas competitions that SAA is invited to.

Selection is based on Selection of Overseas meet for 2016.

Only Singapore citizen are nominated for this competition.

Note: Overseas meets requests are for Open invitational meets and do not include qualifying for meets such as SEA Youth, Asian Junior, SEA Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games.

Please also be reminded to strictly adhere to any stipulated closing date for submission for each meet.

Please submit your interest to SAA (sdp@singaporeathletics.org.sg) once the overseas meet information is published and window is open.

Season’s Best 2016:

Based on the quota given by the organiser (on a meet by meet basis), SAA will send any Singaporean athlete who meets the Senior, Junior and Youth qualifying mark.

Conditions

When only 2 Athletes per country are allowed to be entered per event and if more than 2 athletes meet the qualifying marks, the top 2 ranked athletes within the qualifying window period will be nominated.

All SAA sanctioned competition results will be considered for nomination.

All athletes who are nominated and selected will have to attend all Team Training, Briefing & Camps.

SAA reserves the right to drop any qualified Athlete if the Athlete is deemed unfit to perform at a competitive level.

SAA uses IAAF Scoring Tables of Athletics for its selection criteria. Links to the 2014 edition is as below:

COURSE CONTENT : IAAF Technical Rules of Track and Field Events

COURSE DATES : 15 & 16 October 2016 (Exam on 21 October 2016)

TIME : 9am - 5pm

VENUE : Singapore Sportshub

CLOSING DATE : Tuesday, 27 September 6.00 pm (Both payment, online application and relevant certificates must be submitted by stated closing date and time)

COURSE FEE PER PERSON : S$120

LECTURER : Mr S. Govindaraju (IAAF TOECS Level I Lecturer)

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION : English

CERTIFICATION : The SA Track & Field Officiating Certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course.

ATTENDANCE : 100% Attendance


OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

  • Provide participants with the theoretical and practical training to make technical officials competent to officiate at local, regional, national and exceptionally, at international competitions held within their country.
  • Identify and develop competence in basic officiating skills
  • Provide an understanding of the role and develop the qualities and competence of a Technical Official
  • Provide an introduction to an understanding of the IAAF Competition Rules
  • Encourage, improve and verify appropriate interpretation and application of the IAAF Competition Rules by Technical Officials
  • Provide an introduction to the basics of competition management
  • Foster the ethical and moral development of Technical Officials.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must fulfill the following criteria before being accepted:

  • Candidates must be at least 16 years old and have an interest in athletics
  • Candidates must be physically fit for their assigned role. This does not exclude individuals with disabilities from participating from the courses.

ASSESSMENT

WRITTEN EXAM

    To qualify for the National certificate awarded by SA for Track & Field Officials you need to pass the Written Examination (at least 50%)

PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT

    Attend four (4) practical sessions at four (4) SA Events.

Venue: Kallang Practice Track & SSI Seminar Room

Course Fee: $500 ($300 for Republic Poly students)

Course Duration: 12 days. Compulsory to attend the full 12-day course as per the IAAF requirements.

Selection guidelines

All applicants must meet the basic entry requirements to be considered for the course. If you do not meet the basic entry requirements, you may not be shortlisted for the course.

Basic Entry Requirements:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Have a minimum of a completed Primary school education.
  • Have an interest in athletics.
  • Must be physically fit and able to learn to demonstrate all athletic events.
  • Must be willing to actively involve himself or herself as a qualified coach and to assist the IAAF Member Federation in the development of athletics.
  • Be able to speak and read the course language sufficiently well to sit a written and practical examination.
  • Compulsory to attend all classes punctually and throughout the duration of the course (Compulsory to attend the full 12-day course as per the IAAF requirements).
  • Must have completed Basic Sports Science (BSS) or been granted BSS waiver. (exempted if they have relevant qualification eg: Sports Science diploma/degree)
  • Valid standard first aid cert.

1. Selection Process

Where there are more than 24 applicants who meet the above basic entry requirements, the selection panels will shortlist applicants based on the following selection guidelines:

* Relevant documents (certificates, referral letters etc.) must be accompanied together with your application form and cheque.
