In light of the recent Maria Sharapova doping case, Anti-Doping Singapore (ADS) would like to remind all spexCarding athletes to apply for a TUE with supporting medical documents (such as medical history, diagnostic tests, examination results, laboratory investigations and imaging studies), if any, when required to use medication or methods of treatment that are listed under the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Prohibited List. Athletes in the International Federation (IF) testing pool shall abide by their respective IF’s TUE rules and procedures.

Athletes who need to use a Prohibited Substance or Method must obtain an approved TUE prior to consuming the medication or methods of treatment, unless in an emergency. In such instances, the TUE can be applied retroactively.

For Substances and Methods prohibited In-Competition only, the athlete should apply for a TUE at least 30 days before his/her next competition, unless in an emergency.

For Substances and Methods prohibited at all times, the TUE application must be submitted as soon as the medical condition requiring the use of prohibited substances or methods is diagnosed.

The status of the medication prescribed by a doctor or bought over-the-counter at pharmacies in Singapore can be checked using the ADS online database “CheckDrugs” which is accessible from the ADS website at www.antidoping.org.sg . Alternative online sources to check if medication not obtained in Singapore, include:

Athletes with approved TUE should also take note of the TUE expiry date. If there is a need to continue to use the Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method after the expiry date, the athlete must submit an application for a new TUE well in advance of that expiry date, so that there is sufficient time for a decision to be made on the application before the expiry date.

In the event that, after the TUE is granted, the athlete requires a change in dosage / frequency / route / duration of use of the Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method to the approved TUE, he/she must apply for a new TUE.

A copy of the 2016 Prohibited List and the TUE form are attached for your reference. The iPhone and iPad application for the 2016 Prohibited List, as well as the mobile site for other mobile devices are also available.

Please do not hesitate to contact Anti-Doping Singapore at Tel: 65-65005451 if you need any clarification.
