Highlights

Up and coming race walking prospect Joel Koh Zhi Xuan from Hwa Chong Institution lets his feet does all the talking as he finished first in the 5000 metres A-Boys walks event. He crossed the finish line in a timing of 26:43.01 minutes

Lok Xin Ying of Victoria Junior College ran away with the 3000 metres A-Girls title after running a strategic race. Running behind the race leader most of the race, the 18-year-old made her move 700 metres left into the run. Xin Ying finished in a timing of 11:58.16.

A year on at the same competition, Lynette Lim Enxuan of Victoria Junior College once again jumps into the record books as she improved upon her triple jump women national mark. The 17-year-old hop, skip and jump 11.89 metres (1.2m/s). Last year at the same venue, her previous mar was 11.79 metres

Tan Xin Ning of Cedar Girls’ Secondary School picked up her second gold of the Championship in the C-Girls discus throw with a 26.17 metres effort. Her other gold was in the shot put event.

Highlights

Winning the A-Boys shot put event earlier was Brian See Wei Ren of Raffles Institution. This win makes it his fifth straight consecutive National Schools gold since 2010 in the shot put event. It was the 18-year-old second gold medal from the competition, after clinching the A-Boys discus throw title recently.

Moh Heng Feng Shaun of Dunman High School was in excellent form in the A-Boys long jump event earlier. The 17-year-old added 31 centimetres to his personal best as he leapt ahead of the field to win gold with a distance of 6.84 metres. At last year’s Nationals, Shaun finished second (B-Boys, 6.41 metres).

Shohib B Abdul Wahab Marican (16:57.60) from Raffles Institution completed his distance double this season with a win at the recent A-Div 55th National Schools Cross Country Championships, and today earlier a 5000m school boy title. The 18-year-old was a double silver medallist from last year edition of National Schools and this time round he clinched the title with a convincing burst of pace on the second last lap to break away from ACJC’s Leroi Lee Rong Zu, who ran out of gas and finished third.

It was a good day for the Raffles Institution boys distance running team. After Shohib B Abdul Wahab Marican wins gold in his A-Boys 5000m event, Tan Chong Qi (Bib #303) who was running the B-Boys 3000m event, followed suit in Shohib’s winning ways. The young Chong Qi improved upon his position and timing, as the last edition he was placed sixth in 10:00.81 , to this year’s 9:34.84.

  1. Wong Min, Jannah (18 yrs) – 14.69s 1.7m/s during A-Girls 100m 0.840m hurdles heats. Erased old National Junior and U-19 mark of 14.72s, Dipna Lim Prasad, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Open 10-Oct-2009.
  2. Nur Izlyn Bte Zaini (16 years) – 14.66s 1.0m/s during B-Girls 100m 0.762m hurdles final. Erased old U17 mark of 14.78s, Goh Wei Ning, YOG Asian Trials, 23-May-2010.
  3. Joshua Chua Hanwei (14 yrs) – 13.27s 0.6m/s during C-Boys 100m 0.840m hurdles final. Erased old U15 mark of 13.81s previously joint held by Linus Chong Nat Sch 2010 and Ang Ding Hui WALA 2010.
  4. Tia Louise Rozario (14 yrs) – 12.33s 0.9m/s during C-Girls 80m 0.762m hurdles final. Erased old U15 mark of 12.37s 0.8 m/s, Jannah Wong Min, S’pore Jr Athletic C’ship, 13-Mar-2010.
  5. Teoh Hui Wen, Lynn (16 yrs) – 35.64m during B-Girls javelin throw 500g final. Erased old youth mark of 35.26m Melissa Lim, SEA Youth C’ships, 28-Apr-2012

Highlights

In the long jump B-Boys event final, it was a battle between two Singapore Sports School athletes, Gary Wee Wei Zong and Dylan Wong U Fai. The two pushed each other, with tit-for-tat responses in their jumps result. But it was the former who emerged ahead. Gary jumped 6.71 metres, just 9 centimeters shy from breaking the Championship record.

Long Jia Ning, Alicia from Hwa Chong Institution improved upon her last year National School outing, the color of her medal upgraded from silver to gold with a 33.54 metres effort in the A-Girls discus throw event. She came in second position during the 2013 edition of the competition, losing out to VJC’s Fiona Ng, who herself earlier settled for a silver medal this time round.

Lynette Lim Enxuan helped Victoria Junior College to their first gold medal of the National School competition. It came in the long jump A-Girls event where the diminutive jumper leapt 5.32 metres. The 17 year old now focuses next on the triple jump, an event she currently holds the national record.

Tan Xin Ning of Cedar Girls’ Secondary School had a performance breakthrough in this edition of the National Schools. Not only she grabbed gold in the C-Girls shot put event, but she also improved upon her results distance. She could only achieved 9.77 metres at last year Nationals to earn a silver medal. This year however Tan threw a staggering personal best of 11.10 metres.

Yee Chun Wai, Eric from Hwa Chong Institution erased the old Championship mark for the B-Boys discus throw (1.5kg) with a 48.79 metres effort, a 9 centimetres improvement. The record was previously held by Scott Wong established in 2006. Eric was a runner-up from the previous edition of National School for the 1kg discus throw C-Boys last year (49.19 metres).

Ho Chi Kin Joel of Singapore Sports School helped his school to amass a total of 2 gold medal haul earlier via the B-Boys pole vault event. The other gold was from the C-Girls long jump. Joel soared to a height of 3.70 metres in the final.

Kwok Jean Ee Daphne of Cedar Girls’ Secondary School leapt ahead of her field in the B-Girls triple jump event with a 10.92 metres personal best effort to win gold. Daphne won by the slightest of margin as the top three was separated by just 3 centimetres. It was a tremendous improvement by Daphne who could only muster 10.06 metres seasonal best last year. She finished second to last in the previous edition of National School (C-Girls).

Adeline Bee Wei Ting and Wong Shiying, both of whom are from Raffles Institution posted 1-2 fastest timing for the heats during the 3000 metres A-Girls event held earlier. They respectively clocked 12:24.53 and 12:32.29 minutes. The finals will be held this Thursday at 8:15am

Brian See Wei Ren of Raffles Institution 50.29 metres winning throw was the only effort by a A-Boys athlete in the discus throw event earlier in the day, to hurl beyond the five-zero metres mark. He improved upon his last year distance of 48.40 metres, for the 1.5 kilogram discus implement, which also earned him gold in the same divisional event.

Nah Yi Xin of Cedar Girls’ Secondary School defended her 3000 metres B-Girls title. Her timing of 11:36.18 minutes time round was some 11 seconds faster than her last year’s winning time.

Selection criteria for Singapore athletes for overseas meet

Note: Overseas meet request are for Open invitational meets and not encompass qualifying meets such as SEA Youth, Asian Junior, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games.

    Based on the quota given by organiser (on a meet by meet basis), SAA is willing to send any Singaporean Athlete who meets or betters the SEA Games 2013 bronze medal benchmark (3rd placing of 2013 Sea Games).

    If the quota is not met based on the number of athletes selected and confirmed, any Singaporean Athlete who is 5% or less from the SEA Games 2013 bronze medal benchmark, will also be nominated. All these athletes will be ranked and the cut off will be the quota number invited. If the quota has been reached and if you are still keen to compete, SAA is willing to co-pay with you at 50% of the flight tickets and if you meet or better the bronze medal benchmark, SAA will reimburse you the fees paid.

    For any other athletes who are 6-10% off the 3rd placing of the SEA Games 2013 and are keen to compete, SAA will, on a case by case basis endorse you to be part of the team but you will have to bear the full costs of the air ticket and room and board stipulated by the organiser. Upon achieving the qualifying mark or better, SAA will reimburse the full amount to you.

    Only 2 Athletes per country are allowed to be entered per event. If more than 2 athletes meet the bronze medal benchmark, the top 2 ranked athletes according to the qualifying window period will be nominated as well.

    All SAA sanctioned competition results will be considered for nomination.

    All athletes who are nominated and selected will have to attend all Team Training, Briefing & Camps.

    SAA reserves the right to drop any qualified Athlete if the Athlete is deemed unfit to perform at a competitive level.

    Relays will be represented by selected national teams only.

This event uses electronic registration to ease the registration process. After the first registration, you will be able to use the saved database of your athletes’ particulars for future registration of SAA events.

  1. Download Team Manager Lite software at http://www.hy-tekltd.com/downloads.html
  2. Then download and extract the this Series events file (EV1 format). Load it with the newly installed Team Manager Lite software.
  3. From there, register your participant(s).
  4. Then export the file and send it to events@singaporeathletics.org.sg
  5. Detailed manual instruction of event registration, refer to the Team Manager Lite Manual document.

Highlights

Chan Zhe Ying of CJC pulled off a surprise win in the triple jump A-boys category as his effort of 13.71 metres edge out favorite HCI’s Joshua Hia. Chan whose last season-best was only 12.55 metres, an 8th place finish last year in the same competition.

Chua Ding Zu of Singapore Sports School emulated teammate Jezebel Koh’s previous day gold winning performance in the girls triple jump. Chua hop, skip and jump earlier in the day to a distance of 12.21 metres for his boys event. Both of them are from SSP, in the C division category.

Daniel Lim of SJI surpassed the big five zero distance for the B-Boys 700 grams javelin throw event. In fact he was the only boy to do so in the field. His 50.23 metres effort improved his last season best performance of 45.55 metres.

Nah Yi Xin of Cedar Girls’ Secondary School was the only girl athlete in her B-Girls 3000 metres category to run below 12 minutes, her timing 11:50.93. She leads the field going into the final to be held this coming Monday.

Kon Pei Ying of NYGH who won bronze last year in the B-Girls high jump event, this time round she secured the gold medal for the all-girls secondary school with an effort of 1.53 metres.
