Our up and coming distance runner Soh Rui Yong who is currently overseas on a student exchange at the University of Oregon has been participating in local races there and is doing well.

He recently ran the Scandia 10km & 5km run/walk, where the 22-year-old came in third with a timing of 32:44 minutes, just outside his personal best of 32:26 minute.

The NUS undergrad also helped his team Eugene Generics to win the team event at the Scandia 10km championship event.

Rui Yong also ran a 2 mile event held during our National Day, the Oregon Track Club Allcomers. He won the competition with a timing of 9:53 minutes.

He is currently under the tutelage of Tom Heinonen, UO and USA hall of fame coach.

Please note that this SEA Games trial information will supersede the previous information put up on the 14th August 2013.

A SEA Games trial will be conducted for the athletes under KIV cases decided during the SNOC SEA Games 2013 selection meeting held on the 2nd August 2013. These athlete are as follows:

1) Rachel Yang (Pole-Vault Women)
2) Wong Kai Yuen (Shot-Put Men)

Venue: Nanyang Polytechnic Track
Date: 17th August 2013
Time: 1500hrs to 1900hrs

3) Edmund Sim (Race Walking Men)

23-year-old set out for Moscow to improve on his personal-best. He came close as he clocked 10.52 seconds (-0.4m/s) in the preliminaries finishing first in his race to advance to the next round.

That race improved his season-best of 10.60 seconds set earlier in April and also equalled his personal best set last year at Thailand Open.

For his second round race in the Heats, Calvin ran 10.66 seconds (-0.2m/s). His position 8/8.

A Race Walking, Pole-Vault and Shot-Put trial will be conducted for athletes who have yet to be selected by the SNOC for the 2013 SEA Games.

All eligible athletes (those Race Walking, Pole-Vault and Shot-Put athletes who are in our preliminary name list submitted to the SNOC) who would like to participate in the trial are required to send an e-mail request to the SAA to indicate his or her desire to participate in these trials.

Deadline for this trial request is 14th August 2013.
