A combined RUN & WALK TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS race will be held on Sunday 18 Dec 2011 at the ECP in which Teams of 4, each comprising of 2 runners and 2 walkers, will compete in 6 categories – men and women Open, Juniors and Veterans respectively.
Cash and lucky draw prizes will be given away. This is an opportunity for runners and walkers to come together and enjoy a race. Book this date in your diaries and watch out for details in due course.

Come join us in our Sunday morning training sessions where qualified coaches and experienced walkers will there to show you and offer you tips on the proper technique in this beautiful sport.
All are welcome, newbees and walkers of any standards, just show up in your most comfortable t-shirt and shorts and a pair of light sports shoes (which need not be the most expensive ones) and have fun.
And if your don’t like the sun, join us in the evening at 7.30 pm every Friday at the East Coast Park jogging track at the Fort Road end, meeting at Car Park B1.
Singapore Sports Institute (SSI) Sports Medicine Centre would like to offer non-carded athletes who do not come under the purview of the SSI, to provide information on the availability of alternative Sports Medicine service providers in the restructured hospitals.

Preferential Rates Offered by TTSH for Non-Carded Athletes
For now, TTSH has extended corporate rates for medical services for non-carded athletes seeking (1) Sports Injury / Rehabilitation Packages, (2) Video Gait Analysis, (3) Eye Screening and LASIK Packages and (4) Dental Package. Option to Purchase Medical Insurance for Non-Carded Athletes
The Sports Medicine clinics in the restructured hospitals are capable of supporting the needs of the non-carded athletes. To help defray the cost of Sports Medicine services for non-carded athletes, NSAs are encouraged to purchase medical insurance for them. Zuellig Insurance Brokers Ltd is offering NSAs the option to purchase a separate personal accident insurance policy for non-carded athletes at a preferential group rate. NSAs are also encouraged to review their existing medical insurance policies for their non-carded athletes to ensure that they are adequately covered.

There will be further opportunities to discuss the above and other initiatives from the SSI Sports Medicine Centre during the upcoming Sports Safety Seminar for NSAs. The seminar is tentatively scheduled on either 7th or 14th May from 9am to 11am. More details will be forwarded to you once they are confirmed. It is compulsory that all spexTEAM carded athletes obtain medical clearance by 30 Sep 2011. Athletes who were cleared after 1 Jan 2010 are exempted from this exercise.
Please note that athletes who are not medically cleared by 30 Sep 2011 will have their spexTEAM carding revoked. They will not be eligible for the direct athlete funding (e.g. spexTAG, ACT, spexMEDIC etc). Once carding is revoked, medical indemnity coverage provided by SSC will cease. We seek your co-operation to inform your carded athletes of this requirement and the consequences of failure to comply.
Medical clearance for your athletes can now be done at Healthway Medical Group (HWMG). Please call SportsMedic Centre to set up the appointment. The contact details are:
Please note that expenses for the medical clearance will be paid by SSC. Any cases that need further investigations will have to be referred to Dr Cormac, Medical Director, Medical Centre, SSI, SSC for further decisions. Any other investigations requested by the athlete will not be borne by SSC. The clinic will impose a full rate penalty of Medical Clearance charges for no-shows, if athletes fail to turn up on the scheduled date of their appointment. This penalty will be borne by the NSA.
Do advise us if there are any overseas-based carded athletes that are required to undergo medical clearance. Those who have undergone medical screening can provide SSC with a copy of the medical clearance report from the institution. Alternatively, they may schedule an appointment for the annual screening at Sports Medical Centre, SSI, SSC when they are back in Singapore within 2011.They have to submit the following original documents from the attending physician by 30 Sep 2011.
